In
earlier lessons, we sketched a basic framework of the teachings of
the Researchers of Truth on the nature of Reality, man, and his place within
this Reality. These teachings suggest a path within this Reality. However,
the Esoteric Practices are what facilitate our movement along the path. The
real power of the teachings is revealed when we put them into practice with
love.
But when we practice we should not do it
sub-consciously as habit. We should make every effort to do it consciously
with all our attention but without any tension. We initially practice with
the knowledge of what we are doing and the purpose of it. Then, in time, we
learn to practice Self–Consciously; which means, knowing who we are as the
Self and what we are doing. When we add Self-Awareness (knowledge of the
Self) to this work, we complete the triad of Wisdom, Love and Power. But
what exactly are we practicing with in these exercises? What are the means we
are using in our practice?
In any practice, there are three
components. The first one is the practitioner. The second is the practice
itself. The third is the means the practitioner uses in the practice. In
the Esoteric Practices, the means is the Mind. Consider this point
carefully. The Mind is not our material brain. The mind is not our
thoughts. Actually, we shape our thoughts (and emotions) from the Mind. All
the Worlds of Existence and everything in them is Mind manifested at different
rates of vibration.
The Noetical Universes and their etheric
doubles are Mind in a specific range of frequencies. The Psychical Universes
and their etheric doubles are Mind at lower frequencies of vibrations. The
Material Universe is Mind at its lowest rates of vibration. Mystics tell us
Matter is Mind made solid. They tell us that it is the frequencies of
vibration that make things seem solid, liquid or gaseous to us. Scientists
tell us that matter is mostly space and very little matter – like 99% space,
1% matter. An atom of solid matter consists of a nucleus with electrons
orbiting around it at a certain rate like our planets orbit around our sun.
(Is it a coincidence that atoms of matter behave as do the solar systems in
the material universe?)
To give this some meaning consider this: If
we were to compare the size of one atom of solid matter to a large sports
arena, then the atom’s nucleus would be equivalent to a spec of dust at the
center of the sports arena. The atom’s electron would be the size a fly
orbiting around the outside of the arena. Just imagine all that “empty”
space in the arena. It is the same with the atoms of solid matter. All
solids, liquids or gases in the material universe are composed of atoms, which
are about 99% space 1% actual matter. Therefore, what we consider solid
matter is not really so solid at all. It only seems solid to us because our
bodies vibrate at a similar rate of vibration.
While we are living in a material body, the
material universe seems concrete to us. From this vantage point, the
psychical and noetical universes seem abstract and insubstantial. Yet, during
Exosomatosis (Greek word meaning conscious out of body experience) or after
the death of our material body when we pass over, it will be solid matter,
which will seem insubstantial to us. For example, once we are free from the
material body and our awareness is centered in the psycho-noetical body; then
our hand can pass right through solid material objects. Yet, other
psychical substance will seem solid to our hand. This is because our
psychical body vibrates in a similar range of vibrations as psychical
substance does. The same is true with the noetical body and the noetical
substance composing the noetical worlds.
Can a master who has left his material body
and has composed himself in his psycho-noetical body ever move material
objects? Yes if he knows the way of lowering his vibration to the point of
materializing a hand or complete body. There are many, many accounts of
Daskalos and other masters doing this to help people in times of great need.
However, the most advanced masters will not show such phenomena just to
impress people.
Every body of every existence, from the most
minute to the largest and most complex has a field of energy in and around it
called the Etheric Double. Every atom, every particle of the body of anything
living has a luminous Etheric Double. Every material atom of every living
body is built and maintained in the perfect mold of the Etheric Double. Our
psychical and noetical bodies have their incorruptible Etheric Doubles too.
As our material body is the sum total of all its atoms; so too the body’s
etheric double is composed of all their etheric atoms. What clairvoyants
refer to, as the “Aura” is the light radiation from the Etheric Doubles.
The Etheric Double of our material body
contains centers (gathering
places) of Etheric Vitality. In the East, these centers of energy are
called Chakras. Currents of Etheric
Vitality also run through the Etheric Double and distribute needed energy to
the material body. Etheric Vitality is a life force, Mind in expression,
which can either be diffused or concentrated. A body can not exists without
its Etheric Double. As our body has an Etheric Double so do the living Earth
and the other planets. These are the so-called Ethereal Worlds. Again, the
Etheric Vitality, our Etheric Doubles and the Ethereal Worlds are Mind
at specific frequencies of manifestation.
What we call Etheric Vitality is also known
by many, many other names. In India, it is called “Prana”. Their Pranayama
practices teach the students how to collect and use it. To the Chinese
Etheric Vitality is “Chi” and Chi Kung (Qi Gong) is their practice for working
with it. The Japanese call Etheric Vitality, “Ki”. Their practice of
directing this energy for healing is called Reiki (Reiki in Japanese means
spirit life force). William Reich coined the name Orgone Energy to
describe certain frequencies of this Etheric Vitality. Rudolf Steiner
referred to the Etheric Double as the Etheric Organization and spoke of how to
draw on it with conscious breathing. In the ancient Aramaic language, which
was in use about 1000 years before and after Christ, the Etheric Double was
called the Tzool-mah. Therapeutic Touch and all the other so-called “Energy
Work” techniques of the day draw on Etheric Vitality in varying degrees. In
the Lords Prayer Christ referred to as
Our Daily Bread. It does not make any difference what you call it, Etheric
Vitality exists and we can access it consciously and use it for our own
well-being and to help others.
We as researchers of truth value the work of
science. Both the scientist and the mystic are researching the same reality
but from different approaches. Mystics, sages, and healers for millennia have
been revealing and using the Etheric Vitality, but what about science - do
they know anything about the Etheric? Going back to the ancient times, we
find reference to the four building blocks of matter. These are the so-called
four elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Today's scientists create further
classifications of matter, which are in the Periodic Table. However, in our
system we deal directly with matter's primarily nature - as the seven
elements. Aristotle (384-322 BC) in Greece
spoke of this Ether (Aither). This is the first public record we know
about that mentions Ether. He called Ether the Fifth Element. In his Greek
language, the Fifth Element was “pempte ousia”. Later this became in Latin,
“Quinta” (fifth) “essential” (essence) , and now has become the contemporary
word quintessence in English. Today the definition of quintessence is: the
purest example of something. Certainly, the Etheric qualifies as the purest
example of matter. Yet, there is more to the Etheric, which gives us even more
elements or characteristics than commonly known.
Next came English physicist, Sir Isaac
Newton (1642-1727), considered one of the greatest scientists in history, who
cited this all-pervading Ether of absolute space in the context of physical
laws. Then in 1803 English scientific genius and serious techie of the day,
Thomas Young, was the first to demonstrate that light traveled in waves,
through some unexplained medium. Again, the word Ether was used to label this
mysterious medium. Scientists at the time correctly theorized that Ether was
an electro-magnetic medium that filled the atmosphere and outer space and
carried electromagnetic waves. All this scientific speculation about Ether
initiated a race led by the top brainpower to identify and measure the medium
they called Ether. However, when the rudimentary instruments of the 1800’s
could not detect Ether, mainstream science seemed to lose interest in the idea
of Ether and its role as the fifth element.
However, other researchers have carried on
in this area. The nature and behavior of Etheric energy is like contemporary
scientist’s descriptions of electro-magnetic plasma (electrically charged
gaseous states of matter). For a researcher of truth, Etheric Vitality is
the means we use in the Esoteric Practices. With training and time anyone who
is interested can develop their awareness of and conscious use of the Ether
and three of its different characteristics. Once we do that for ourselves we
will not need science to prove it to us - we will know it directly with
certainty.
Etheric Vitality has identifiable states or
properties, which carry out different functions in the Etheric Doubles of our
three bodies. Four states of the Etheric Vitality are: the Kinetic, the
Imprint, the Sensate (Aesthetic) and the Creative. These four distinguishable
states are within every etheric atom. The first three we can use right now.
We already do use them but we use them mostly subconsciously, unaware of their
existence. There are still more properties of the Etheric but first must
concern ourselves with the conscious use of the first three.
The fourth, the Creative Ether, is under the
authority and use of the Holy Spirit for the creation of living matter. The
renewal of the cells and healing of the wounds for our material body is
evidence of it. In the distant past man did use (and misuse) the Creative
Ether. Precious few today have reached that stage where the Holy Spirit has
entrusted to them with the use of the Creative Ether. In the future, people
will again be able to co-create with this live giving vitality. Yet, it is
possible (but not easy) to do so today, and certain members of the Researchers
of Truth have.
Daskalos mentioned that to such a person:
“Matter will be a toy in their hands. They will know what is
materialization and dematerialization.”
The other three properties of the Etheric
Vitality, we do have the right to work with right now. We work with these
properties and develop our skills with them when we undertake any Esoteric
Practice. The practices of Visualization, Meditation, Introspection,
Concentration and Contemplation all exercise our skills with the Ether.
Just working with the Kinetic, Aesthetic and
Imprint Ether brings forward great powers and abilities that are latent within
us all. In India, they call these powers Sidhis. Beyond that, this work in
conjunction with purifying our personality, prepare us to be fit to use of the
Creative Ether. After reaching high levels of Self-Consciousness, the serious
researcher is shown how to use the Creative Ether. This is not something that
can really be explained in written or spoken words. It needs long training
and direct experience.
In the next lesson, we
will discuss the Etheric Vitality in more detail. We will further explain the
nature of the Kinetic, Aesthetic and the Imprint Ethers; their use and

Sensing and working with Etheric Vitality
"Put your hands,
the fingers of each hand on your knees and grasp your knees. Caress your knees
with your fingers. You are feeling your knees. You are feeling also the
fingers. Do it. Caress your knees and feel them.
"What are you
doing now? You are working on the aesthetic and kinetic ether. Yet, that is
done subconsciously, without noticing it, but, with practice you will feel it.
Now there is a circle of energy from your chest through your arms to your
knees and from inside downwards through the belly, the thighs, making a
circuit. Try to feel it. Just try to feel it.
"Now, continuing
- feel your knees and feel also the toes of your feet. You feel them, and you
have them there in the etheric double. The etheric double has not been
amputated. Feel them. Touch your knees and feel the toes of both feet.
"Now, put your
hands together (see me what I do), touch the tips of your fingers. Press the
fingers on one another, the five fingers. There is a space now between the
hands, in the palms. Now, feel the fingers pressing each other and feel the
space between the palms. Here, you can feel it. It's a kind of warmth. Try to
feel this heat in your hands (this means much energy, electromagnetic energy).
See what I do now. You need that energy (don't open your hands). Give it back
to your hand. Whenever you feel somewhere pain in your body, do that.
"In front of your
heart, join the fingers, the lower part of the hand and feel
the space between the palms, until you feel it. In course of time you will
feel vibrations. Then put them on the suffering place, on the knee (usually
you have pains in the knees), without opening, touching them together, put
them on the knee, on the feet, on the heart, on the head." ~ DASKALOS

“You
will find out the existence of the so-called etheric double. You have to
know this etheric double. You have it, of course, but unless you make use of
it how will you know that it is there. If you have hands but if they are
paralyzed and you cannot move them; how can you know them unless they are
active and you work with them?
“So,
we say you have an etheric double. Somebody may say that he cannot see it.
Yet, even with your material eyes you can see it. Now, I will repeat it,
having paralyzed hands which I have never used, how will I know them?
“You
are sure you have material hands because you can use them. Now, I am
telling you that you have an etheric double - A great, great reality. It is
the mould through which and by which your material body has been built, is
growing, and is being nourished.
“Now, from the point of view
of reason, that is correct. But, now you want practical proof.
If you
ask, ‘How can you tell me that I have an etheric double?’ And, I tell you,
You are using it without knowing it. You are using it subconsciously. If I
classify the way this etheric double is functioning you'll understand it,
yet, if I teach you to use it at will then it will be a reality to you. Your
paralyzed hands are alive now and you can use them. So, if you can do that;
who can just mislead you that you don't have an etheric double?”

is, therefore, a primary responsibility for those who are interested in the
Truth to learn all that is permissible concerning the human bodies. With the
help of the Archangels, we need to master our etheric doubles, and control
the etheric vitality (in the four forms of ether: sensate, imprint, kinetic
and creative) for use in our psycho-noetical development, maintaining our
health and the health of others.
