The Nature of Elementals part 1

We have said in previous lessons that in reality a human being is a Spirit-Soul, perfect and incorruptible. As Spirit-Soul, we project a ray of our Self from the realms of Beingness into the worlds of existence and incarnate as a man or woman.  We remain one, but now with a dual expression – our immortal Divine Nature and our mortal human nature.   Our Divine Nature is our true Individuality, our Real Self.    This Self projects a ray of Spirit into the worlds of existence.  It is in these worlds of time and place that we encounter our human nature as a temporary personality, a reflection of our Real Self.  Incarnating in the worlds of existence creates for the personality a sense of separation from it Real Self and God.   Yet, our Real Self never ever loses its at-one-ment with God.    As this golden ray of our Spirit-Soul fearlessly descends into the worlds of existence, it is provided noetical substance (mental body), psychical substance (emotional body) and material substance (material body) by the Holy Spirit and Its Archangelic emissaries. 

As a personality, we dress our material body in material clothing.  When we dress our body, we do not change the nature of the material body itself.  Whether our body is dressed in the finest linens and silks of high society or the dirty rags of a homeless person our body is not affected by its clothing.  It is still the same body, two arms, two legs, two lungs, and so on.  We also dress our psychical body with the emotions, sentiments, and desires we express.  Likewise, we dress our noetical body with our thoughts, concepts, and intentions. Most people dress these bodies far less consciously than they do their material body.   The psychical and noetical garments do not corrupt the ray of our Spirit incarnating in the bodies.  It remains a pure Spirit-Life-Light.   This brilliant golden ray is at the core of every human personality.  This is a common point with all men and women.  Yet, no two personalities are the same.  Why is there a difference?  What makes the personalities of even identical twins different?

Again, the ray of our Spirit-Soul is dressed in bodies during an incarnation – the material body, the psychical body, and the noetical body.   The material body of one man is virtually identical to any other man.  The body of one woman is similar to any other woman.  They all have a heart, brain, lungs, liver, spleen and so on.  The outer look, shape, and weight may be different but fundamentally, our bodies are very much the same (karma permitting).   How we dress our material, psychical, and noetical bodies distinguishes our personality.  This is particularly true for the psychical and noetical bodies.   It is here that distinctiveness of each personality is formed.  

In a certain stratum of society, there is the notion that you are what you wear.  Others say you are what you eat.  Some even think they are the material body. Even more mistakenly, believe they are what they feel and they are what they think.  These are passing expressions of the self – they are not the Real Self.  Our thoughts and our feelings are constantly changing over the course of our life.  What changes is not real and what is Real does not change.

The emotions and desires we express dress our psychical body and thus color, and shape our personality.   Yet, at the very core of our bodies and personality the luminosity of our Spirit-Soul radiates untainted.   The type, quantity, intensity and purity of our emotions covering the psychical body affect the transmission of our Spirit’s Light within our personality.  The more loving and kind emotions we express the more that Light shines through the personality.  Consequently the happier and more connected to our Spirit-Soul Self we feel. The more fearful, angry or negative emotions we harbor, the less our Spirit Life-Light is able to penetrate our personality and touch the people around us.   The same is true with our thoughts and our noetical body.   We choose (consciously or sub-consciously) which emotions, desires and thoughts we allow expression.  Thus, we are very much responsible for them. 

We are dressing and re-dressing, our psychical and noetical bodies in the clothing of our feelings and thoughts constantly.  The quality of these emotions and thoughts does not diminish the Light of our Spirit within, but only its ability to be perceived.   This Light has been called many names by different cultures across time.  Today in western systems, we call it the Christ Light and it is perfectly described by Yohannan (Saint John the Divine) as the Light of the Logos, which is the light of everyone coming into the world.   The use of the word Light is a reference to the Self-Awareness within every human being.  It does not matter how revealed or obscured it may be within the personality it is perfect Life-Light.  It is this Light that Mother Theresa referred to when she visited the drug addicts, alcoholics and homeless in the Bowery of New York City (and elsewhere).   Looking upon the derelict personalities she said: All I see in each of you is Christ in a distressing disguise.   

We as personalities are able to cover this light or unfold it within our personality.  We do that by the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors we choose to express.  It is possible to clean the personality of negative feelings, thoughts, behaviors and unhealthy attitudes; replacing them with real love, noble intentions and selfless service creating a saintly personality.  Alternatively, the personality can be so contaminated by hatred, impure desires, negative thoughts, and deviant behaviors that a truly devilish personality is developed.   More commonly, a personality in between these two extremes is created.   In his parables, Christ often metaphorically referred to the human personality as a house.  A builder constructs a house brick by brick, stone by stone, board by board.   We too construct our personality piece by piece with the emotions, desires, thoughts and behaviors we repeatedly express.  By these individual expressions, our character is formed and our destiny is sown. 

But, what exactly is an emotion and what is thought?  What are they made of and where do they come from? Why do some emotions and thoughts have such a powerful influence on us and others do not?  Why is it so difficult to free ourselves from the influences of the undesirable harmful ones?  These are the questions of a Researcher of Truth.  These questions bring us to one of the most important branches of study within the System for the Research of Truth – the Elementals.   Every thought every feeling, every intention creates and transmits what we call an Elemental.  Elementals are far more than static units of thought and emotion.  They are living, they have a life of their own and their expression has strength and purpose. Other spiritual teachings call Elementals, thought-forms.  In the ancient Sanskrit language of India, they were known as “Vasanas”.   The Buddhists call some types of Elementals “habit energies” and mental formations from our store consciousness (our sub-consciousness).  Certain biologists, psychologists and cognitive scientists have also hit upon the existence of these invisible but powerful forces within the personality of man and the society.   They are calling some types of Elementals the “Memes”[1].   These scientists focus on Group Elementals shaping the psychology of our culture. They call their twenty-six year study of these units of cultural transmission Memetics.   Their description of how Memes work corresponds to Daskalos’ seventy year teaching on how Elementals work.  Elementals range in quality from angelic to devilish.

Christ was calling certain Elementals: “spirits mute and meaningless”, “unclean spirits”, and still others “evil spirits”.  “Spirits mute and meaningless” are the pointless distracting feelings and thoughts that clamor for our attention and clutter the shallows of our mind.  “Unclean Spirits” are the negative emotions and thoughts that degrade the personality.  “Evil Spirits” are the devilish Elementals that are destructive to both the host personality and those around it.  Make no mistake about it; these are real devils in every sense of the word.  But they are not true demons.  Humans create them so we identify them as human in nature devils. If allowed expression within the personality negative group elementals can grow in power and number to the point of dominating the host personality.  They can even gain a kind of temporary possession over the personality.  They can influence that personality into horrible behaviors, crimes, and in some cases drive them insane. Christ taught his disciple-healers how to remove the harmful ones from the afflicted personalities they were torturing.  Daskalos and the teachings of the Researchers of Truth also teach how to free the personality of the unwanted elementals as well as how to create Angelic Shield Elementals for our loved ones and our self.  

In the next lessons, we will describe more about the life of an Elemental, which can extend beyond our earthly incarnation.   We will examine how we create new Elementals, reanimate pre-existing Elementals and how they work to achieve their purpose – good or bad.   We will see how we can free ourselves of the harmful ones and how to create benevolent, healing Elementals to help those we love and ourselves.  To be continued. .  .    .

A meditation by Daskalos from a Stoa Lesson

Now we will have a meditation.

First of all relax completely your material body, from toes to head. Start relaxing from the feet, the knees, the thighs, the belly. Relax completely the chest. Breathe deeply, comfortably, without any effort. Without tension. Relax the hands. Feel them relaxed. No emotions. No desires. No feelings now. Everything stands still. No thoughts coming from the sub consciousness disturbing you. You feel you are completely calm. Completely relaxed, mentally, psychically and materially.

You are completely relaxed. Yet, you are you. What are you? Who are you? An Ego. Forget your name. Forget your sex. Just ask yourself "I am a living being - what am I as life? I am I - that "I" I want to know. I have covered that I with a name, male or female. I want it out. What is really interesting me is that "I" and that "am", which means "I am" in the world of Beingness, beyond the world of existence. This "I am" is what is interesting me now. I am trying to feel this "I am" as my personality now. I am I - what is this "I"? Complete the circle. I am I. What am I? This feeling of being?

Try to understand what you are at this moment. I am feeling that I am in this material body which is built up most wisely by the Lords of the Elements. I am the one who is causing what we call illnesses. I shouldn't do this. I must calm down. Now I am in this material body, living in it, and I am entitled by the Grace of the Infinite Beingness to feel it as mine. By being in it I am possessing something precious, more precious than any material thing around me - this body I am calling mine. Every moment Holy Intelligences, the Archangels of the Elements, are building it, keeping it in good order and in good health.
Now, I am feeling I am in this body, from the toes to my head. Since I am in this body I want it to be healthy.

This elemental you are creating now will make your body healthy, even if it isn't.
I want this material body of mine to be healthy always. After all, this is the purpose of the Holy Archangels of the Elements - building and keeping the body in good order. So, I'll cooperate with them. I'll not go against their creative work.
I want this material body I call mine (yet, knowing very little about it) to be in good health, siding with the creative Lords of the Elements in me. I want perfect health for my material body.
Breathe deeply and feel in your heart, Simply, feel your heart. I want all my emotions, all my desires to be under my knowledge and control - to know their nature, to control all that exists in my sub consciousness, the elementals composing my personality. I want all my emotions to calm down so that I may be able to shape them, control them and use them.

Feel you are in the head now. I want all my thoughts to be under my control. I want my thoughts not to be the slaves of my emotions and desires, but - masters. I want to use the thought for better life of my personality. I want to know more about myself as a person and as a Soul.
This is the most important request of yours. I'll repeat it.

I want to know more about myself as a personality and about myself as a Soul. I want all the negative thoughts and negative elementals I have in my egoism, attacking my personality, causing me troubles and weaknesses, to be now under my control.
Now, see your material body in white light. From your heart see a ray of rosy light spreading and say to yourself: "No hostile elemental from others may enter in my personality and affect me."

So, it is better to study and learn, and know the nature of everything. To free ourselves from illusions and misconceptions and to know the value of everything according to its value and according to the value we are giving it. This will make us live better and feel being better. So, boldly and with courage, each one of us should enter into his sub-consciousness. That means, starting to study his Present-Day-Personality, the quality of it, the quality of elementals composing it. I am telling you, you will find there a very, very cunning and devilish enemy who is the cause of all the troubles of every human being. A Devil presenting himself as the Angel of Light, according to the Bible. That's the egoism.

Though these elementals are not visible in the material world now (in the other worlds they will be materialized) they are full of energy and - we are always under their burden. Whole life of a man or a woman on the material plane, being happy or miserable, depends upon the weight and the nature of these elementals which are (though invisible) most powerful.

So, we must learn the nature of these elementals. First, as I said, by understanding our responsibility in dealing with the them, how do we construct and build them up, how are they affecting us, and also what these elementals are doing to others. Of course, studying this subject on elementals we also study how one can dis-energize them, make corrections, and how can one construct elementals, shields (protecting angels), to stop their influence [of the negative elementals] on us and on the others.    ~DASKALOS
