Clearly we are incarnated, living within a mortal material body made of flesh.  But after the death of our material body, what happens next - Liberation?   Annihilation?  Reincarnation?    To begin to examine this vast subject, let us briefly review our understanding on who and What we really are.

Many today have come across teachings that say we are not our body.   Our material body is ours but it is not our Self.  Likewise the body of our emotions (Psychical Body) is also ours but it is not our Self.   Similarly the body of our thoughts (Noetical Body) is also ours but it is not our Self.   All three of these bodies can drastically change over the course of our earthly life.   We express ourselves in and through these three bodies.

INCARNATION

Our Spirit-Soul is a pure and incorruptible radiation of luminous Life-Light.   And when a ray of our Spirit becomes humanized and incarnates in the Worlds of Separation its Life-Light is dressed in these three bodies.    The thoughts, emotions, desires and behaviors we choose to express while incarnated; clothe the Self and in varying degrees obscure its Life-Light.

Of course, billions of people all over the Earth believe in reincarnation.   Even in materialistic America a 2003 Harris poll showed that over 1 in 4 people believe in reincarnation.  Now let us examine the teachings of the Researchers of Truth, Christianity, and Mysticism on subjects of incarnation, reincarnation and spiritual evolution (unfoldment).  We all find ourselves on Earth incarnated in a material body.  Then after some years comes the often-dreaded change we call death.   It is obvious that our material body does not survive the change called death.  And if we identify our Self with the body then it is natural to fear death.   But for those who have truly experienced their Self beyond the confines of the limited physical body, the idea of death loses its sting.

As Daskalos adamantly stated, “There is no such thing as death! It is a continuation of the self-consciousness.”  There is change in the conditions of life when leaving the material world behind, but that change is not the death of our Self as a Spirit-Soul or even the demise of our self as a personality.   After passing over, the departed will find himself or herself recomposed in the Psychical Planes in similar conditions as when on Earth.   They will have the same way of feeling and thinking as while living in the material body.   The continuity is so seamless for most that they initially do not even realize they have passed over.  This is the mercy of God.

When our material body dies, we as self-awareness, leave it behind and we continue our existence in our Pyscho-Noetical bodies in the Pyscho-Noetical worlds.   When a person passes over, the family and friends left behind feel they have lost their loved one.   However the person passing over does not.  On the psychical planes, the departed, whether a young child or an elder, continue on with their life and development.   After passing over, there are no spiritual police that come and grab the departed and force them into a hell.   Rather the merits or demerits of a person’s life expressions as thoughts, feelings, desires and deeds creates a quality of character, a specific vibration within them that automatically delivers the departed into the exact psychical sub-plane they are in harmony with.  The process is unerringly accurate and just.

The lower sub-planes of the psychically worlds are where we find the so-called Hells.  However these hells exist not as a locality, but as a condition.   Hellish psycho-noetical conditions are created by the destructive thoughts and feelings harbored or expressed by the personality.  These form a shell like membrane that color and filter the impressions we receive in the Psycho-Noetical planes of existence.    It is the same on Earth.  The sum total of our feelings, thoughts and way of living create a psychological shell around us that greatly affect our perceptions about life and about the people around us.  Or as the old saying goes:  “If a pick-pocket meets a saint all he sees are the saint’s pockets.”

The departed after some time in the Psychical Planes of existence, which may be much shorter or longer than was their time on Earth, will experience the “Second Death” as it is called in the Bible.   The second death is our release from our Psychical body, which allows us to continue our life and spiritual unfoldment in our Noetical body in the Noetical Worlds.   Each of our three bodies (Physical, Psychical and Noetical) belongs to the three worlds of existence.  To exist in the Material World we need a material body, to exist in the Psychical World we need a Psychical Body and to exist in the Noetical World we need a Noetical body.   While on earth, these three bodies are connected and coexist, as do the three Worlds of Existence.   The second death is painless as our self-awareness simply transfers from the Psychical to the Noetical.

The Noetical Planes, sometimes called the mental worlds, are worlds of thought and form.  Here we continue our life, our existence and complete this incarnation.  For those who have not developed much mentally during their earthly incarnation, this Noetical sojourn is brief.   Each level of existence Material, Psychical and Noetical gives us valuable impressions and experiences.  When these are rightly interpreted they produce understanding.   And the essence of these are recorded in what we call our Permanent Atom as talents, predispositions, lessons learned and lessons yet to be learned.  The Permanent Atom is a truthful record or diary of all our incarnations, which is kept by our inner Self (Permanent Personality) and our Guardian Angel.  Where is this Permanent Atom?  In the Etheric heart corresponding with the heart center in each of the three bodies.  Recorded in it, is the truth of all of our experiences from this and all previous incarnations. These shape and determine the exact conditions needed in subsequent incarnations in order to progress.   At this very moment, we find ourselves incarnated into the circumstances that contain specific lessons that when learned, will free us from our current sufferings and lead us towards Self Realization.   So rather than running away from undesirable circumstances in our life, we would be better advised to face them, discover the causes of these circumstances and make the necessary corrections.  Therein lies our freedom and self-mastery.

DISINCARNATION

Coming to the end of a single incarnation, the Noetical body dissolves and we cross the threshold into the Eternal Now, leaving the temporary Worlds of Existence and enter into the Noetic State between incarnations.   This is the luminous home of our dis-incarnated Soul.  It is beyond form and beyond the limits of time and place.  The Noetic State is a formless realm of Laws, Causes, Principles and Ideas.  These Divine Laws, Causes and Principles are the source of all the forms we see manifested in all in all the Worlds of Existence.

Entering into the Noetic State the experiences and knowledge of this incarnation transfer over into the Permanent Atom as wisdom.  Though we may have many, many incarnations with different bodies and constantly changing personalities, we have but one Permanent Atom, which accompanies us in all incarnations.  Drawing on the lessons learned and lessons to be learned as recorded within the Permanent Atom, our Inner Self along with the Lords of Karma (Archangels of the Elements) plan our next incarnation.  Now we await a suitable re-entry point back into an earthly incarnation.  Governed by our Karma and according to the Divine Plan we will incarnate into a family, a locality and time period best suited to give us the opportunity to progress in our next lifetime.

REINCARNATION

Once reincarnated, the vast majority of people have no memory of their previous incarnation.   It is due to the mercy of God that we do not remember.  Because in remembering all our past lives, we would also remember all our past mistakes, errors and crimes, which would be a very heavy burden indeed.   So by not remembering, God has given us a fresh start, a better chance to progress.   Once we raise our consciousness to higher levels; we shift our identification  from the present-day personality self to our Permanent Personality  Self.  Then we are able to access the recordings of our past lives contained within the Permanent Atom.   At this stage of development there will be no danger of being encumbered by the weight of the past failures and problems.   In other words: We will not be allowed to remember any past incarnation until it will not be a hindrance to our progress.

The teachings of the Researchers of Truth differ considerable with conventional notions on reincarnation that are popular today.   People will sometimes say: “I was this personality or that personality in my past life”, just repeating what psychics tell them.   This is placing the wrong accent on the matter.   We have stated that it is the expressive part of the Soul, the Permanent Personality that projects a ray of itself into the three Worlds of Separation, and creates a new present-day personality.   In each new incarnation a new temporary personality is created.

Our Inner Self, the Permanent Personality repeatedly projects a ray of itself into the words of existence creating a new present-day personality during each new incarnation.  If we were to compare our Permanent Personality to a book then each individual incarnation could be likened to a chapter in that book.  So it is very inaccurate when we as a personality claim to have been this or that personality in a past life.  Just as it would be very inaccurate for chapter 21 to claim it is chapter 7 of the book.  Only the book has the right to claim it is chapter 21 and chapter 7.  So too, only our Permanent Personality can claim to have been this or that previously personality in a past life.

CHRISTIANITY & THE DOCTRINE OF REINCARNATION

Eastern religions, Gnostic systems and ancient mystery schools hold to the doctrine of reincarnation but what about Christianity?   Did Christ deny or confirm the doctrine of reincarnation, which in his time was widely known?  When the Romans made Christianity the State Religion, the early Christian teachings on Reincarnation were suppressed.  However, today’s Bible still contains a few references to reincarnation.  For example, there is a conversation reported between Christ and his disciples.   In he Old Testament a prophecy stated that the prophet Elijah must “come again” (reincarnate) before the appearance of the Messiah (Christ).  So there was a general belief among the Jews and Essenes that the spirit of Elijah would reincarnate.  Christ’s disciples knew of this prophecy and they asked him about it.   This gave Christ the perfect opportunity to deny reincarnation if it was false, as he  did about other false beliefs.   But Joshua Immanuel the Christ did not deny reincarnation, he confirmed it.  He told his disciples that John [the Baptist] was indeed Elijah who had come again.  See Below

And consider the Biblical story where Christ heals a man blind from birth.  His disciples asked Christ, did the man sin or his parents sin that he was born blind?   This often overlooked passage again points to the common belief in reincarnation.  If reincarnation was not an accepted belief at that time, why would the disciples consider it a possibility that a child born blind could have sinned before being born.   Once again Christ had the perfect opportunity to speak against the belief in reincarnation.  If the idea that a man could have committed a prior sin that resulted in him being born blind was wrong, Christ would have said so.  But he did not rebuke the question as wrong or impossible but answered that neither had sinned.  See Below

Despite Rome’s vicious persecutions of Christians, Christianity continued to expand during the first centuries after Christ.   One of the spiritual giants of early Christianity was the bishop Origen [i](185 - 254 A.D.) who said:  Each Soul enters the world strengthened by the victories or weakened by the defect of its past lives. Its place in this world is determined by past virtues and shortcomings”.   Obviously, this well documented quote proves that reincarnation was accepted and taught by early Christian leaders.

However, once Rome realized they could not squelch Christianity, Roman Emperor Constantine decided to embrace it by making it the State religion.  In 325 AD he began convening councils that debated on the meaning of Christ’s teachings and what aspects should be incorporated into Rome’s “official” version of Christianity.  So the debate over reincarnation began and continued over the years.   By 600 AD the doctrine of reincarnation had been successfully discredited, disavowed, and eliminated from the official version of Christianity. These Christian councils made the teaching of the doctrine of reincarnation punishable by death.

Yet, even when faced with death, many Christians continued to hold to this doctrine.   Most notably are the Cathari.  The word Cathar or Cathari is from the Greek word katharos, which means pure.  For many, many years, Catharism was one of the most prevalent forms of Christianity and flourished in parts of Spain, Italy, France, Bulgaria, Albania, and Slavonia.  The Cathari, like the Essenes, abandoned the false teaching that God was a vengeful God as portrayed in the Old Testament.  They also courageously upheld the doctrine of Reincarnation.  Unfortunately, by this time the Church in Rome had great earthly power and began a crusade to eradicate the Cathari for not following the official party line.  At the time Pope Innocent III declared the heretics  must be “burnt without pity” for their beliefs.   The newly formed enforcement branch of the Church called the Inquisition rose to this call.  For over 50 years they freely massacred the Cathari.  In the name of the Church they burned Cathar men, women and children alive and confiscated their property.   By the middle of the 13th century, over one million Cathari had been slaughtered and the doctrine of reincarnation all but silenced.

Today we have many, many authentic teachings and teachers that offer their proof of life after death and reincarnation.  They can point to sources such as the Bible, Mahayana Buddhism’s Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Hindu Upanishads, Classical Indian Vedanta philosophy and many other sources.  A Researcher of Truth can and should study these sources.   Other than historical scriptural references, what proof do we have that we exist beyond the confines of our material body?   What tangible proof do we have that there is life after death?   More and more doctors and scientist are considering the so-called near death experience (NDE) reported by people all around the world as possible evidence of life after death.  The quantity and mutually collaborating accounts of near death experiences does seem to substantiate the belief in life after death as claimed in so many religious scriptures over the past millennia.

But it is personal, verifiable experience that Researchers of Truth seek to transform their learning and belief into direct knowledge.   One of the more convincing experiences that is possible for dedicated Researchers of Truth and which provides the unmistakable proof that we exist and continue to live out side our material body, is Exosomatosis (Out of Body Experience).   Many, many Researchers of Truth, after much training, have had this experience.  They find themselves outside of their material body but with the exact same self-consciousness as when they were in the body.  Initially seeing your material body from the outside, visibly separate from the “you” that you consider yourself to be can be unnerving.  But with time and practice this experience stabilizes.  And it provides the Researcher of Truth direct proof of the continuation of their life beyond its incarceration in a material body - And the fear of death has no power over them.

Love to All,

A MEDITATION BY DASKALOS

Relax completely. Feel you are relaxed, from the legs, thighs, abdomen, chest... Breathe deeply and comfortably. Silence down completely in you every emotion. You have to start to think slowly now.

You feel you are in that material body of yours now, everywhere in the material body - head, chest, hands, abdomen, feet - feel that you are in your material body. I said start thinking slowly, you have to slow down the way of thinking. Who am I?  Don't be in a hurry. Put this question slowly. Who am I in this material body? Is this material body mine? I am in it. I am in - it. Who am I? Forget your name, forget your human form.

Put the question directly - you want to investigate your selfhood - not the material body, the gross matter, the matter is nothing. The spirit is life-giving, you, you are the spirit Who am I? What am I? Casting away from myself emotions, desires, thoughts, yet I remain myself, I am I! That I-ness I want to know and feel that it is myself - not my desires, my weaknesses or my thoughts. All these are changing, but I am not changing. I am the everlasting life. Whether I am in a dreamless deep sleep - I am! Recomposing my petty little time-and-place self I am the same I-ness. I am the Life and the Truth. What am I? An entity, receiving impressions from outside, from the material world? Yes - that also, but I am more than that, much, much more than that. I am I, this I-ness, myself, I want to know, enter in the real Self-realization. What am I then? ~ DASKALOS

PERMANENT ATOM

(Esoteric Teachings page 194) That part of the permanent personality, which acts as the recorder of the experiences it has received in the place-time worlds. The permanent atom is situated in the etheric heart of each body simultaneously, and registers all the emotions, thoughts, reactions and experiences as they occur in the three worlds [of existence]

(Esoteric Teachings page  41)  The permanent personality must record the impressions and experiences it has received in the space-place-time worlds. It designs, therefore, with matter-substance of which it is itself constructed as a gross material, psychic and noetical body, a centre. This centre is situated in our etheric heart, whose position in the bodies is exactly the same as that of our material heart. We call this centre the permanent atom.

The permanent atom, which is material, psychic and noetical, is established from the moment the Self-aware Soul has first expressed Itself as a permanent personality. It is a book in which the permanent personality records, from the moment of its first incarnation, its experiences, behaviors, emotions and thoughts.

  Permanent Personality

(Esoteric Practices page 37) Described by some as "the feet of the soul", [or the seat of the soul] this self is an expression of, and in union with, the Self-aware Soul in the worlds of time and place. The Permanent Personality contains the Divine Laws, Total Wisdom, Total Power and Total Love.  It is the task of the Permanent Personality to select and to supervise the lives and experiences of the present-day personalities.

(Esoteric Teachings page 43) What, then, is the relationship between the permanent personality and present personalities? And what is the relationship between our selves of past incarnations and the self of the permanent personality? We think it is sufficient to say that each incarnation is simply a mask, which the permanent personality puts on.

Daskalos Exiting the Stoa

From a Stoa Lesson by Daskalos

“We said that everything existing as a living form, from the amoeba, the ant, the fly, the bee, the cows, the lambs, the colts, to the elephant, has a beginning and an end. From that beginning to the end they complete the Circle of Possibilities. But, the end is the beginning - like in a circle. That's why we say: Circle. For a man, it is reincarnation.

So, let us take a circle of a human being. First of all it is from the creation of the Holy Archangels - the spermatozoa in the body of a male person. A male person makes love to a woman giving the opportunity for a new being and creature to come to the world. Being and creature? What does it mean? The bodies are the creature, the being is the Spirit-Soul which will be incarnated - or, re-incarnated. So, that personality now in the world of existence, starts from birth, then growing, growing to become an adult, a young man or a young woman. And then coming to the end, which means passing over.

So that person covered a part of the Circle of Possibilities - not the whole Circle. The life continues in the psychical plane. It goes on! It continues in the noetical plane. It goes on! Then you have a rest. And you are incarnated again, in a spermatozoon as you did the first time - now a new body, new circumstances, new places. But, in that creature is the Spirit-Soul-Ego, which adapts itself to the circumstances and creates a personality.. ~ DASLALOS
